Frequently, they Ask these...

  • Will you tweet about my business or services from @CapeTown?
  • Maybe. It depends if there is value for the community of followers. Very selective. Avoiding spam. A good starting point is to 'gift' something that I could give away to a follower @capeMahala or sign up for the directory. Some of my followers and I will also consider endorsements for products by using it, testing it and tweeting about it.
  • Can I pay you for tweets?  Don't think this is the ideal business model going forward at the moment. Rather consider advertising here in the associated website in exchange for a number of tweets. Any advert should not clash badly with the design or theme of the website, and is subject to approval. Email please. Become a #capeHero this way :)
  • How does @CapeTown differ from other Cape Town Twitter accounts?  Would like to see us as an interactive, helpful and conversational community of residents and visitors - as opposed to sharing information as main objective. A lot of time is spend building community. We focus on people of Cape Town and experiences here.
  • The @capetown account does not represent the City of Cape Town, Cape Town Tourism or any other official channel, but will retweet these accounts to benefit followers.
  • Will you run a competition or tweet about a GiveAway? We are not very keen on numerous Twitter competitions. However, I will support a giveaway if done via @capeMahala (simply give it to me, to give away) to followers of @CapeTown.
  • What about full-on campaigns for brands? Unique brand campaigns are different: if you would like @CapeTown to support a full tweet campaign with more than one impromptu tweet, truthfully, it is a new media marketing service and it will only be considered on merit.
  • What is a #capeHero?   These are businesses that have agreements with the @capetown account holder, with services selectively and discreetly promoted to followers. Current partners are:
                - Afrihost, for all data services (get a discount)
                - Toodu, in association with #capeadvice
                - myPrepaid, register to buy electricity
                - Umuntu Media
                - JobVineSA, in association with #capejobs
  • What does it cost to advertise here? Please download the PDF file below with all the information you need. By contributing, you will be seen and tweeted as a #capeHero in Twitter.

Is it safe to tweet in the car?

Nope, it is even more dangerous to tweet and drive, than to drive under the influence. Stay safe. Be back. Update: City of Cape Town now also has a By-Law where your mobile will be confiscated when you drive and hold it with any part of your body.

How many hits do you get on the website?
Although we do not mind sending you Google Stats, it may not be the right question for what @CapeTown does - a microblogging (and not a website) service. So please have a look at the influence of the account via KLOUT - on the homepage instead?

Why don't you follow me? Could be a number of reasons - the most probable is that your location in  your Twitter profile does not say you are in Cape Town. Maybe I don't know about you. Tweet me and ask?

Or maybe just by choice. :p

Who took the @CapeTown profile picture?

Photographers living in, or visiting Cape Town are asked to share a photo with followers. A few unique photos have been used in the past to celebrate Cape Town. Thank you very much!

What are the frequent tags used by the community?

There is now a dedicated page that highlights the different hashtags # used in Twitter. A # basically helps us to talk about the same things.
